Genesis 37 - 39

What stood out today: v37:11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind. v38:7 But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight so he put him to death. v10 But Onan was wicked in the Lord’s sight so he put him to death also. v15 When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute. v16 Come now, let me sleep with you. v39:9 How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God? v21 But while Joseph was there in prison the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.

My response: Father God, what a story you are weaving! Joseph and his dreams. Joseph being loved more by his father. Joseph being sold. Er and Onan killed by you. Judah sleeping with Tamar and this is the Jesus lineage. Joseph, remaining pure and upright. While in prison you still care and provide. God, your love for us is Holy. It is above-above, beyond-beyond. You enter our messed up stories. You journey with us. You give and you take away. Your are El Elohe Israel. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus: Blessed be your Name. With you being so intimate, so involved, you see everything. Holy Father, I fear hurting you by bringing sin before your eyes. And yet there is this tension of your Love for me. What a powerful combination to inspire a fear/love response in me…
