Genesis 21 - 22

What stood out today: v21:11 The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son. But God said to him, Do not be so distressed about the boy…because he is your offspring. It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. v33 There he called upon the name of the Lord, the eternal God. v22:2 Then God said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love…Sacrifice him there… v7 Isaac said, Father?...Where is the lamb for the burnt offering? Abraham answered, God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering my son. v12 But the Angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven…Now I know that you fear God because you have not withheld your son, your only son.

My response: Rick, remember who I am… Yes, Lord, you are the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. v33 The eternal God v22:14 The God who provides. The God of the living. The God of promise. The God who is faithful. Yet, God, the idea of me taking a test like Abraham scares me to death. Does this mean I do fear you?

O Angel of the Lord, fairest Lord Jesus, what are my Isaacs? What is keeping me from clinging to you with both hands? Psalm 139:23, 24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Amen.
