What stood out today: v31:12 The angel of God said, I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you. v24 Then God said to Laban, Be careful, do not say anything to Jacob, either good or bad. v32:7 In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people. v9 Then Jacob prayed. v10 I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. v28 Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome. v33:20 There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel – mighty is the God of Israel.
My response: God, you see all things. Nothing escapes your notice. You speak to anyone you want to – even Laban. You make Jacob face his enemies Laban and Esau. I am glad for this account of Jacob being terrified, acting, and then praying. It’s so backwards, yet I often respond that way. Holy Spirit, please teach me to pray first; it would save me a lot of time being afraid. Lord Jesus, thank you for getting dirty with me, wrestling with me in my world. In my sin and out of my sin you rescue me. You wrestle and subdue, and quiet my fearful heart. Yes, Jesus, you are the El Elhoe Israel, the Mighty God. I love you, I adore you, I worship you…
